Claim against Lothian Buses
11/01/12: A bus driver is seeking compensation after his chair collapsed during a tea break.
The incident occurred in the Lothian Buses depot canteen when Robert Young, aged 54, was having his break. His combined chair and table unit flew backwards and knocked him to the ground.
Mr. Young sustained an injury very similar to whiplash which has left him with chronic back pain. Since the incident in May 2010, Mr. Young has had to take pain killers to cope with his back pain and has undertaken a course of physiotherapy. Furthermore, Mr. Young has had his work life disrupted significantly.
The bus driver was unable to work for two months after the accident, but then only managed to work for four days before he had to take another two months off work to rest his troubled back.
Mr. Young is apparently seeking £75,000 in compensation from Lothian Buses, according to the Daily Mail. However Lothian Buses is claiming that Mr. Young was already suffering from chronic back pain long before the accident, as well as other physical problems like obesity. The company is also disputing the claim because of Mr. Young’s supposed poor attendance record.
Both parties have refused to talk to the media on this matter while the case is still ongoing.
